Slovenian cakes are one of the most beloved desserts in the country. They are made with a variety of ingredients, including fruits, nuts, chocolate, and spices. Slovenia is known for its delicious desserts, and cakes are no exception. Today, I'm going to show you how to make three of the most popular Slovenian cakes.

1. Prekmurska Gibanica Recipe



Prekmurska gibanica is a traditional Slovenian layered pastry made with a variety of fillings, including poppy seeds, apples, walnuts, and cottage cheese. It is a popular dessert in Slovenia, and it is often served at special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup poppy seeds
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:



1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt.
3. Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry blender.
4. Gradually add the warm water until the dough is soft and pliable.
5. Divide the dough into four parts.
6. Roll each part into a thin circle.
7. Place one of the dough circles in a greased 9-inch springform pan.
8. In a separate bowl, mix the poppy seeds, walnuts, cottage cheese, apples, raisins, honey, and cinnamon.
9. Spread half of the poppy seed mixture onto the dough circle in the springform pan.
10. Place another dough circle on top of the filling.
11. Spread the remaining poppy seed mixture on top of the second dough circle.
12. Place the third dough circle on top of the filling.
13. Place the fourth dough circle on top.
14. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
15. Remove from the oven and let cool before slicing and serving.
