The Best Moist Chocolate Cake Recipe Ever Uk
Ingredients
This delicious chocolate cake recipe calls for a few simple ingredients that you likely already have in your pantry. You’ll need:
- 250g (1 ½ cups) plain flour
- 200g (1 cup) caster sugar
- 50g (1/3 cup) cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 3 large eggs
- 250ml (1 cup) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
- 250ml (1 cup) boiling water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180 C (160 C fan-forced) and grease a 20cm round cake tin.
In a large bowl, sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda. Add the eggs, oil and vanilla essence and mix until combined. Gradually add the boiling water, stirring until the mixture is smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake for 40 minutes. To check that the cake is cooked, insert a skewer into the centre of the cake – if it comes out clean, the cake is cooked.
Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning out onto a cooling rack. Once the cake is completely cool, you’re ready to decorate.
Decoration
This is the fun part – you can get creative with whatever decorations you want! I like to spread a thick layer of chocolate ganache over the top and sides of the cake, before sprinkling with crushed nuts. Then I pipe a border around the edge of the cake, using a star-shaped nozzle.
You can also top the cake with fresh berries, chocolate shavings, grated coconut, flowers and fresh cream. The possibilities are endless!
Nutrition
This moist chocolate cake recipe is sure to be a hit with chocolate lovers… but it’s not the healthiest. One slice of the finished cake contains around 500 calories, 13g of fat and 70g of carbohydrates.
If you’re looking for a healthier option, you can try substituting some of the ingredients for lower-fat or lower-sugar alternatives. For example, you could use light olive oil instead of vegetable oil, or use half the sugar and replace the other half with a sugar alternative.
You could also use yoghurt instead of oil, or use wholemeal flour instead of plain flour. These simple swaps can make the finished cake much healthier.
